Ben SCSI hard drives and even CD roms are old school now. My computer does not have a DVD drive, only once that I have needed to connect an external one to it. Once you try Solid State Drives there is no going back.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I got my hands on a big cable Tron net server and a couple repeaters

set up the whole apartment complex on a private Network just so we could game

I was the maintenance supervisor and the residential manager all the same time

so we knocked holes in every wall in the apartment complex to run wire

The last pic here shows how the new mosfet will mount to the heatsink

I cut and copied the address and I can't get it to go to the address I was hoping you could put a link to it

Thanks again hoping I can return the favor maybe you decide to build a windmill and I can send you some parts

Madness said   Linux is good but you really start limiting what software you can use. I use Gmail which almost completely eliminates any spam emails and if you are careful about what you download helps avoid viruses also.

What I do is have a bunch of different hard drives that I use for different things.

On the internet I use Ubuntu for Forums looking up information and checking out news sites. Also all my mail comes in on this drive.

I use an entirely different drive for financial transactions and NOTHING ELSE.

Then I have a third hard drive with Widows XP that is never directly connected to the internet. This I use for PCB design and other software design packages that will only run on Windows.

I also purchased a gadget that can clone complete hard drives, so if any of the above do crash, I have everything backed up.
Cheers,  Tony.

Hi Mad , I also use ubuntu and XP for some older software I have licensed to me
That will only run on XP.

To save rebooting to XP from Ubuntu I use Virtualbox to lanuch XP from ubuntu .

Virtualbox is free , Installs on Linux,Windows,Mac,Unix And runs a list of host systems .

Install using synaptic package manager or from the prompt:

apt install virtualbox

So while using Ubuntu i may see a jpeg i would like to edit and repost
start Virtualbox/ XP or win 7 or Win 10 Start PAINT edit my jpg save to my ubuntu /home/Pictures
and post my edited jpg ,

Yes i could edit using GIMP or other linux photo
editing software , This was an example of using win from linux,

From ubuntu "shell/bash" you can clone hard drives complete with the boot sector ,

dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb

if = input file
dev = device
sda = scsi disk a ( first disk in the chain )

of = output file ETC:ETC

Wait till The job finishes and you have a cloned drive ,
You can still browse the net or proceed as normal while the drive is
being cloned in the background .

dd is very powerfull use with care :

If using ssd drives on any OS do google "trim support for ssd management"

I am paranoid, mainly because I really struggle with this stuff.
Computers and software are definitely not my area of expertise.

It worries me having data and information I really cannot afford to lose on one single hard drive that is connected to the internet.

I can shut down, plug in a different solid state drive and reboot in less than a minute.
And its simple (like me).
Cheers,  Tony.

You're not paranoid at all warpspeed

I used to always say if your car broke down as often as your computer we all would still be using horse and buggy

Those are some really good methods of doing things

anyone that didn't want to lose their important info may want to ask you a few more questions

I would like to add that you can partition your hard drive as many times as you want

This divided up into different drives but you're still screwed if the drive goes out

The benefit of partitioning the drive is you can put your operating system on one of the partitions

So if your operating system becomes corrupted you can reload it without affecting the other partitions

I have read somewhere about Oz and others running h y 4008 in there old Power Jack boards

I am looking for what resistors I should use going from Hy 3810 to Hy 4008

I know this information is somewhere
I've read it

or it might even be simple for one of you guys to figure out without having to have the information

I'm pretty sure that I read that if you use the original resistors it runs really hot really quick or something

Thanks for any help

I really like Tony's idea of having different hardrives, I've done it in the past but haven't bother in recent years. As SSD drives get cheaper I re-visit this idea.

Ben, how many Mosfets are going on the new board? I'm guessing half as many? Are you using through hole resistors? I imagine they'd fit.

I can't quite read the values on you photo, what are the values?
It looks like individual pulldowns, they could be consolidated into one resistor if you like.

Small SSDs are probably all you need if all your "stuff" is spread across several.
They are fast too, and making backups does not take long.

I'm waiting to get permission from Kent the PCB creator to put a picture of it up here

I don't think he would mind but I'm going to wait for him to answer me back

I think he has done a brilliant job on it
It is all through hole and you are correct 3 mosfets

After I make sure to get the right resistor value for the little boards

I will be ordering them and the boards 4 another experimental inverter

Of course I'm going to have to figure out how to send the Gerber files to the PCB manufacturer and make sure I've got the right onesEdited by BenandAmber 2019-07-14

I like your computer joke by the way

Many years ago before the iPhones

and computers wasn't throw away items

People that was deep in the computer field realized that Apple was going to rise and it was going to be handheld devices

a really good friend of mine that owned a computer store on the opposite side of town to me and amber

called compused his name was Dave Zuk he was always preaching about Apple being Superior and Microsoft a ripoff

At that time it was almost unheard of for an apple to get any kind of virus while all Microsoft machines we're being attacked on a daily basis

You would get threatening letters from Bill Gates cease and desist while OS was being shared freely

By the time I swore off computers I was convinced if I ever owned another one it would be a Macintosh Apple product of some kind

Fast forward 10 to 15 years later

When I first got a smartphone I got a apple and after seeing that they was jacking you for money every way they possibly could

I said the heck with it and went to an Android

Repairing a computer was so easy back in those days

Hardware failures was easy to spot and most of the failures were software where the software had been built on top of the previous software bugs and all

I am now like a fish out of water I can barely turn one on

Time has passed me by

Everything I was once so sure about I'm not quite sure about anymore and the older I get the less I know

Just the other day I was told that hard drives went to solid state devices

that was another thing that me and old Dave foreseen for the future

The future seemed so bright and full of exciting things

And now it seems dark and Bleek hopefully this is just my perception

From a young kid I noticed the differences between old people

Some Would smile with glowing faces full of wisdom and wrinkles telling wonderful stories of the good old days

You never heard them complain always had something good to say

And then there was the other kind bitter nagging never smiling always unhappy always having something bad to say

This led me to think long and hard these people endured the same thing how could their outlooks be so different

The answer came to me years later from a little 8 year old girl she said she was going to forget about the bad memories to make more room for the good memories

There was the difference between the two

I hope I'm not going down the wrong road here

Sorry for the rant I think I'm just getting oldEdited by BenandAmber 2019-07-14
